Online Counselling Services
My story
Providing online counselling services seemed like an obvious solution for me to continue counselling once the service I was working with closed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The road was long to get to counselling, but I think my story might be helpful to understand a little of where I have come from.
I came to counselling after 22 years in the Australian Army where I served across Australia, East Timor and the Middle East. I have a deep and personal understanding of military life not only as a veteran myself but also as a daughter of a Vietnam veteran and partner to a serving member. The Army saw me involved in the lives of those under my command and I found myself supporting them and their partners through tough times.
Since leaving the Army I have undergone significant personal growth particularly with regards to understanding of the impacts of military service on my personal values. This is something I have since seen replicated in people who have been inside anything for a long time – a marriage, children at home, a job or perhaps living in a rut – without something to be passionate about.
Without realising it, at the age of 42 I started powerlifting. Powerlifting provided me with a disruption to everyday life, giving me a whole new perspective and appreciation for my body that had suffered a lifetime of loathing. Ultimately the sport led to me compete in the USA and to be the Co-Captain of the Australian Invictus Games Team in 2018 . Being involved in these events not only offered me the pleasure of hanging out with HRH Duke of Sussex for a short time, it demonstrated the power of sport and connection, in living a fulfilling life and I would love for others to find this too.
All this magic happened while I had two primary aged children and a partner working extremely long hours. This is how I came to understand feelings of being overwhelmed and the challenges that come along with it.
I am passionate about supporting people to find themselves when a significant life event occurs. Helping you to develop an understanding of where you are now. Sometimes this happens through a deeper understanding of the past, sometimes by working through what presents right now. Together we can find the best way ahead for you.
I will be your safe place to share life’s hassles, your cheerleader and conscience as required. I will listen without judgement and allow you your own space to develop.
“Without Nicole I doubt I would be this far along the healing path. Our sessions help me understand my past, be in the present (even when it sucks) and visualise a future, embracing the uncertainty and mystery of life.”
